Common Reasons UK Visa Applications Are Refused

Recently, one of my friends has been denied a UK Standard Visitor Visa application. On studying his case, it has become apparent that it was not due to lack of eligibility; it was the insufficient strength of evidence that led to the denial.

The most common causes of UK visa refusal include:

  • Insufficient financial evidence showing ability to fund the visit.
  • Lack of clarity about the purpose of the trip and accompanying documentation.
  • Insufficient evidence of your ties back to your home country like job, business, family obligations.
  • Contradictions in the application and accompanying documents.
  • Lack of documentation.
  • Past history of immigration problems, if any.

For the purposes of increasing your chances:

  • Ensure that your documents are complete and correct.
  • State clearly the reason for your visit.
  • Provide proof that you will go back home after the visit.
  • Check carefully all the dates, employment details and financial aspects before sending in the application.

The UK Home Office will evaluate every application individually, so it is possible that an individual with a legitimate application might be refused a visa because his/her application did not provide sufficient evidence to support the application.
