Cardi B knows how to make an entrance. But at Vogue World: Milano, she did more than turn heads. She stepped onto the runway wearing a piece of fashion history.
The rapper joined some of the biggest names in fashion and entertainment for Vogue World’s Milan edition on September 22, appearing in an archival Versace dress covered in colourful pop-art versions of past Vogue covers. She completed the look with gold, diamond-encrusted Tiffany & Co. bone cuffs and Versace shoes.
And yes, it was every bit as dramatic as it sounds
The dress came from Versace’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection. At the time, Donatella Versace created the collection as a tribute to her late brother, Gianni Versace, marking 20 years since his death.
Donatella looked back through Gianni’s archives and reworked some of his most memorable designs, including ideas from his famous Spring 1991 collection, which was known for its bold use of pop culture and colourful prints.
So when Cardi walked out in the dress almost a decade later, there was more going on than simply another celebrity runway appearance.
