The 2026/27 Premier League season is already producing plenty of drama, and Gameweek 3 delivered another weekend packed with goals, late twists and early statements of intent.
With the transfer window now closed, clubs are beginning to settle into their new-look squads, but there is little sign of the league settling down. From Alexander Isak’s blistering Liverpool debut campaign to Everton’s dramatic stoppage-time rescue against Manchester United, the weekend had something for everyone.
Isak inspires Liverpool to first win
Liverpool finally secured their first Premier League victory under new manager Andoni Iraola with a 2-0 win away to Ipswich Town.
Alexander Isak wasted little time announcing himself, scoring twice inside the opening 10 minutes. Both goals were created by Cody Gakpo, who produced an outstanding display in attack. The result moved Liverpool onto five points from their opening three matches.
For Isak, it was a timely reminder of the quality that made Liverpool invest heavily in him.
Manchester City edge Coventry
Manchester City maintained their perfect start with a narrow 1-0 victory over Coventry City.
The champions were made to work for the three points, but the victory keeps City at the top end of the early-season table with maximum points from three games.
Arsenal win heavyweight clash with Chelsea
The weekend’s headline fixture belonged to Arsenal, who came from behind to beat Chelsea 2-1 at the Emirates.
Chelsea stunned the hosts with an early Morgan Rogers goal, but Arsenal responded through Kai Havertz before captain Martin Ødegaard completed the comeback after half-time.
The victory keeps Arsenal unbeaten and level on nine points with Manchester City.
For Chelsea, the defeat represents an early setback for Xabi Alonso’s developing side, although their attacking threat remains evident. Chelsea has not beaten Arsenal in 3 seasons!
Everton leave Manchester United heartbroken
If Arsenal supplied the comeback, Everton supplied the late drama.
Manchester United appeared to have done enough to secure all three points after goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Šeško. Everton twice fought back, however, with Tyrique George equalising before Ainsley Maitland-Niles produced a spectacular long-range strike in the 96th minute to make it 2-2.
United will feel this was two points dropped after leading twice, while Everton’s unbeaten start continues.
Palace claim impressive away win
Crystal Palace came from behind to beat Fulham 3-2, leaving Fulham still searching for their first point of the campaign.
It was another difficult afternoon for Álvaro Arbeloa’s side, who have now lost all three of their opening league matches. Palace, meanwhile, secured a valuable victory in their developing campaign.
Newcastle and Bournemouth share four-goal thriller
Newcastle United and Bournemouth played out an entertaining 2-2 draw.
Both sides remain unbeaten after three games, although neither has yet managed to turn that resilience into a strong winning run.
More stalemates across the weekend
There was also plenty of parity elsewhere.
Brentford drew 1-1 with Sunderland, Brighton and Leeds finished 1-1, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham played out a goalless draw, while Hull City and Aston Villa also shared the points after a 0-0 stalemate.
Tottenham’s inability to find the net remains an early concern, with Spurs still searching for their first league victory of the campaign.

The early picture
After three games, Manchester City and Arsenal have emerged as the only sides with perfect records, both sitting on nine points. Hull City have also made an impressive unbeaten start, while Liverpool, Newcastle, Everton and Leeds are among the chasing pack on five points.
Three games are hardly enough to write the season’s final chapter, but Gameweek 3 has certainly provided a few intriguing clues. Arsenal look ready to defend their crown, City remain relentlessly efficient, Liverpool may finally be finding their rhythm, and Manchester United have already discovered that Premier League matches can turn into banana skins at the very last kick.
And with the Manchester derby next weekend, the league is wasting absolutely no time turning up the temperature.
