Shade Okoya turns 49, glowing effortlessly in a radiant sweep of yellow

Shade Okoya marks her 49th in commanding elegance, draped in a custom mustard-gold embellished masterpiece by Tubobereni. Captured through the lens of Felix Crown, she elevates the look with a sculptural gele by Taiwo’s Touch and flawless beauty by Tenny Coco, delivering a moment that feels less like a birthday and more like a coronation of timeless Nigerian glamour.

We’ve always known yellow is a sweet, radiant colour. What we didn’t quite realise is how perfectly it comes alive on Shade Okoya. On her, yellow lace becomes sunshine with intent, the exact glow your Saturday didn’t know it was missing.

The businesswoman, philanthropist, and style icon marks her 49th birthday today, choosing to celebrate it in the most captivating way: a full photoshoot, dressed to the nines, embodying a woman who knows herself and moves accordingly.

And the look? A symphony of well-considered details.

Shade steps out in a floor-length, long-sleeved, fitted gown rendered in a rich mustard-gold, its surface entirely adorned with intricate beadwork and embellishment. The beading traces the bodice in a mix of curved and linear geometric patterns, lending the piece a sculpted, architectural feel. At the hip, a fringe peplum introduces movement and depth, softening the otherwise sleek, column silhouette that tapers elegantly to the floor. The sleeves are sheer, delicately threaded with the same beading from the shoulders to the wrists, while a modest V-neckline anchors the look in understated sophistication.

Her gele rises tall and sculptural, fashioned from the same golden-yellow fabric, expertly folded into a full, structured form with a rosette detail at the front. It completes the look with quiet authority, bringing everything into a seamless, intentional whole.

She offsets the richness with silver jewellery, a layered choker and drop earrings that introduce just enough contrast to keep the gold from feeling overpowering. On her feet, pointed-toe satin heels in matching yellow, finished with an embellished toe, echo the palette with precision. Her makeup follows suit: polished and deliberate, with defined lashes and a clean, neutral lip that lets the entire look breathe.

Yellow was clearly the right call. From the gown to the gele to the shoes, Shade Okoya committed to the colour completely and the result speaks for itself.
