Leeds United are in talks with Manchester City over a move for goalkeeper James Trafford, sources said. Trafford is keen to assess his options this summer after a frustrating season at the Etihad Stadium.
The 23-year-old returned to City from Burnley a year ago, but found his playing time severely limited after the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain.
Newcastle and Aston Villa initially both held an interest in him this summer, although Villa now expect Emi Martinez to stay at the club.
Leeds are looking for a new goalkeeper after Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier left Elland Road this summer. Goalkeepers Lucas Perri and Alex Cairns remain on the books but Perri lost his place to Darlow in the second half of last season and did not play in the Premier League after a 4-3 defeat to Newcastle on 7 January.
Leeds United have finally agreed to a club-record move for England international goalkeeper James Trafford, as per journalist David Ornstein. They will pay £40 million plus add-ons to sign the former Burnley man, who was at the FIFA World Cup this summer. Trafford will get a chance to be first-choice between the sticks, having spent most of the 2025-26 season on the bench at Man City.
