Scotland got their 1st World Cup win in 36 years against Haiti

Scotland have won their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a 1:0 win over a tough, attack-minded Haiti side in Group C in Boston, making it thier first World Cup win in 36 years.

Scotland go top of the group after Brazil and Morocco drew 1-1 in their earlier match. It’s a huge result for the Tartan Army ahead of what promised to be tougher challenges against Brazil and Morocco as they aim to reach the knockout stages for the first time ever.

Scotland goal scorer John McGinn in an interview after the match said “It wasn’t my best of goals but who cares? It’s been a long time coming,”. “I scuffed it a wee bit. 

“Haiti are a decent team by the way. We had to work hard for it. Could we play a bit better? Aye. But it was a must-win game and we won. I’m absolutely over the moon.”

Scotland coach Steve Clarke also said his side know they will need to improve.

“We’ve been through a lot of hurt as a country,”. “A generation of supporters haven’t seen this. But the pride on my face this morning seeing all the kids going to the parks in a Scotland kit and painting their faces.

Scotland still have to face Morocco and Brazil in the remaining group stage matches.
