Panama almost took the lead inside the first two minutes but Cecilio Waterman’s strike was tipped over the bar by Ghana keeper Lawrence Ati Zigi. Ghana had their first shot on goal in the 45th minute of the game as they endured a dreadful first half. It was a very chaotic first half from both end.
The second half started without Ghana’s Ziga. Head coach Carlos Queiroz had brought on Asare at half-time after Zigi suffered an injury when he landed awkwardly in the first period. The Ghanian side couldn’t get their rhythm all game before scoring what was the latest winning goal so far at this summer’s World Cup.
Thomas Christiansen’s side were on top for much of the game and deserved at least a point, but Panama walked away without a point as they have lost all four games they have ever played at a World Cup.
Ghana will go on to play England next Teusday who won their first match of the tournament 4:2 against Croatia.
