Music, My Dirty Boxers

Is Korede Bello living up to the hype?

Been resisting the urge all these while but I can’t hold it back anymore, is Korede Bello living up to the hype of Godwin? (Photo credit: Woodin)

There would be days like this and if you’re a fan of the act under review, I can’t stop you from taking offense but in your heart of heart, you’ll know that the question I’m raising is valid and while it might not really be my business, but I have to ask… Is Korede Bello living up to the hype?

I remember the days of Dorobucci by Mavin, whoever your fav was in that clan then, you’d agree with me that Korede Bello was the star of that particular track and from then, at least for the two to three years that followed, he looked like the closest to the top among the rave of the moment then.

Remember the most controversial Headies award ever? The one that had Reekado Banks, Lil Kesh, Cynthia Morgan, Korede Bello and Kizz Daniel? While the first two on this list were the most touted, I actually thought that award belonged to Kizz Daniel and I’d have rated Korede Bello over the top two.

Korede Bello dropped Godwin, which was the street anthem for a very long time, the reception was out of this world, it was even accepted in church, and one would have thought the young man was on the way to being the best act in the land, we kinda thought wrongly.

He released Mungo Park and a few other tracks but none has gotten to the heights of Godwin, he went back to school at some points and we expected him to hit the scene strongly afterwards, nothing like that has happened and from the place of love I’m asking, what happened to Korede Bello?

I won’t deny the fact that there were questions about his sexuality, but is that why he has gone under the radar? His relationship with Mavin even became confusing at some points but now we know he’s an independent act, so what is happening gan gan?

The challenges that faced Cynthia Morgan is well documented, looks like Lil Kesh found new calling on the laptop despite one or two tracks here and there, Reekado dropped Ozumba Mbadiwe recently and he’s making little waves, Kizz Daniel is certainly the star of that group and I really don’t have to say much about why or do I?

I don’t think it’s right to say Korede Bello is a failed artiste yet, but he needs to prove he’s not a spent force except he has dropped music totally for other callings. He’s a model as far as I know, maybe that has taken precedence now and music is now plan B.

There’s so much power in the platform you’re operating from, I know a lot would have happened in the right manner had Don Jazzy remained in charge of Korede Bello but you can’t blame anyone who is protecting his or her own investment, music promotion isn’t cheap.

Reekado hasn’t been the same since leaving Mavin too, he was trolled for going to O2 Arena with Davido to sing Ozumba Mbadiwe lol, what would you guys have him do na? You want him to sing catapult? Or ladies and gentlemen? Lol.

Were you ever a fan of Korede Bello? I remember how Osasumwen sent me a pic he took with Korede Bello in London sometime in 2013, she felt like she just had a pic with Michael Jackson, I’m sure she must be disappointed now but we move.

So, let me ask you my dear reader, has Korede Bello lived up to the hype for you? From Godwin to this near oblivion, are you as disappointed as I am? What other act did you expect so much from that you can’t see around anymore? Mention them lemme see if we’re on the same page.
